Wat bieden wij
Onze service
Volledige aandacht voor uw klachten
At every surgical procedure, follow-up care is an essential part of treatment. The extent of this follow-up depends on the type of operation performed. After an arterial release procedure, you will have a follow-up appointment with the sports medicine department 6 to 18 months after surgery. This visit includes a consultation with the physician, an ultrasound examination, and a maximal exercise test with blood pressure measurements. If you are symptom-free and all test results are normal, no further treatment is required. However, if symptoms return at any time, we recommend that you contact us for reassessment.
If you have undergone an arterial reconstruction, such as an artery shortening procedure, an MRI scan will also be performed as part of your follow-up. In these cases as well, no additional follow-up appointments are necessary if you remain symptom-free.
Patients who have undergone a reconstruction using a venous patch require more regular monitoring. If the first follow-up assessment shows satisfactory results, further evaluations are usually scheduled every five years to monitor the condition of the artery. These five-year follow-up examinations take place in our vascular laboratory within the radiology department. Following the examination, you will have a brief consultation with the vascular surgeon to discuss your progress and overall well-being.
Consultation with the Physician
During this appointment, we review how the surgery and recovery have progressed, discuss any remaining symptoms, and address any other questions or concerns you may have.
Follow-Up Assessment
We then perform targeted examinations to evaluate the outcome of the surgery. This includes imaging studies as well as a maximal exercise test to assess whether blood can flow freely through the artery again during physical activity.
Completion of Follow-Up Care
Based on the results of the follow-up assessments, we determine whether any additional appointments are necessary. If you are symptom-free and all findings are normal, no further follow-up is required, except for the five-yearly reviews following a vascular reconstruction with a venous patch. Should your symptoms return at any time, you are always welcome to return for reassessment so we can determine whether any changes have occurred since your previous evaluation.
