Biografie
Dr. Roel Vaes, MD, PhD, is a vascular and endovascular surgeon at Máxima Medical Center (MMC) in the Netherlands. He obtained his PhD in 2016 with research focused on long-term complications of autogenous haemodialysis access, particularly high-flow arteriovenous fistulas and dialysis access-induced hand ischaemia. His work contributed to improving surgical treatment strategies for these complex vascular access complications, including the evaluation of the RUDI procedure and the management of hand ischaemia in dialysis patients.
In recent years, Dr. Vaes has also been closely involved in the diagnosis and treatment of athletes with Flow Limitations in the Iliac Artery (FLIA), a condition that can significantly impair performance in endurance sports. Combining clinical expertise, research, and innovative vascular care, he is committed to advancing treatment options for both vascular disease and exercise-related arterial flow limitations.
